SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run Trailer

SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) is back to the big screen in another SpongeBob movie!

When SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Gary search the deep blue seas to find him. Tim Hill (long-time SpongeBob SquarePants writer), has been credited as both directing and co-writing the new film. As a result, I hope that the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants will deliver the same quirkiness that has been come to expect from the series.

The SpongeBob SquarePants first aired twenty years ago, first airing on Nickelodeon on the 1st May 1999. The series has had two cinematic spin-offs, 2004’s SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and 2015’s The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. The later of these movies grossed over $325 million worldwide.

In a first for the series and movie franchise, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is entirely animated in CGI. The new film will tie into the upcoming prequel series, Kamp Koral. From what we can see in the trailer, Kamp Koral is a Summer Camp SpongeBob attended when he was a child.

A highlight of the trailer is a surprise cameo by Keanu Reeves, playing a wise sage bush named Sage. The trailer itself hits some great jokes and the scenes with the adorable, young SpongeBob has made me quite excited to see Kamp Koral.

Did you grow up on SpongeBob? Will you be seeing the latest movie? Let me know!
